Police have put out a plea to drive with care following a number of crashes on roads along the North Yorkshire coast this morning (Thursday, 18 January).

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We’re currently dealing with several road traffic collisions in the Whitby/Scarborough area where there are hazardous driving conditions and it continues to snow.

“In particular the A169 in Sleights is very icy so please be careful around this area as well as Coach Road and Blue Bank.

“Our 101 line is likely to be busy today. If waiting times are increasing you can request a call back on 101, just press 1 when prompted.

“In an emergency or if you are in immediate danger always call 999.”
