Saturday update: Sharp rise in coronavirus cases in York
There were 50 coronavirus cases confirmed in York today (Saturday, 19 December) – the highest daily rise for a month.
The last time the city recorded more than 50 new cases in a day was on 19 November (54).
It takes the cumulative total to 6,070 – giving an overall infection rate of 2,882 cases per 100,000 people.
In the last seven days there have been 191 positive Covid-19 tests in York – an increase of 49 (34.5%) week on week.
The latest validated data shows a coronavirus rate in York of 69.3 in the seven days to 13 December.

In North Yorkshire, there were 90 new coronavirus cases today, taking the cumulative total to 15,085 – an infection rate of 2,440.7 cases per 100K.
There are 831 cases in Ryedale (up eight), 2,390 in Selby (up 10), 3,954 in Harrogate (up 15), 1,862 in Hambleton (up eight), 3,442 in Scarborough (up 37), 1,120 in Richmondshire (up five) and 1,486 in Craven (up seven).
There were five more coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.
That takes the total to 345 across the trust.
