We reported earlier that the road was partially blocked after a car crashed near the Greencore roundabout heading towards Selby.

It is shut both ways from the A684 Northallerton turn off to the A61 Stockton Road.

A stretch of the A59 has been closed by a serious crash this lunchtime (Monday, 25 March).
North Yorkshire Police reported at 12.44pm that the A59 just outside Skipton on the Broughton side is closed due to a serious collision.
They said: “There is no vehicle access between the roundabout of the A59/A629/A65 and the junction just next to that for the A6069/A59.
“The A59 won’t be able to be accessible from Gargrave (on Gargrave Road).
“The road may need to stay closed for several hours, so please find other routes and we will aim to keep you updated when it reopens.”
Temporary traffic lights that failed this morning (Wednesday, 6 March) are back working.
The three-way lights at the junction of Micklegate and Ouse Bridge had gone out at rush hour.
But engineers have fixed them and all is back to normal.
Drivers have been warned that the temporary traffic lights have gone out at a key junction in York this morning (Wednesday, 6 March).
Travel York shared this post on X at 7.38am: “We are aware of the issue with the temporary signals on Micklegate / Bridge Street.
“The traffic management company for these lights are currently on site working on a fix. Apologies for any delays this is causing to your journeys.”
The three-way traffic lights are to steer traffic round the gasworks at the top of Skeldergate, which has closed the entrance to the road.
At 8am traffic was actually flowing more freely than normal.

It is shut close to the turn-off to Ugthorpe, west of Whitby.
Emergency services were called to the collision at 6.32am.

It has happened on the M1 southbound at junction 47 A656 (Garforth / Micklefield).

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said an Acomb crew responded to the vehicle fire.
“Crews used breathing apparatus equipment and hose reels to extinguish the fire. Crews also gave first aid to the driver who had sustained a small burn on their hand.”

Due to the freezing conditions, there are icy patches on the roads, so the advice is to drive with extra caution.
