Friday update: Another 63 coronavirus cases in York but weekly positive test rate falls

There were a further 63 coronavirus cases confirmed in York today (Friday, 30 October).

That takes the cumulative total to 3,652 – giving an overall infection rate of 1,733.9 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last seven days there have been 461 positive Covid-19 tests in York – which is down by 256 (-35.7%).

The rolling seven-day rate in York is 240.7 new cases per 100,000 people (507 cases in the week to 26 October). That’s down from 307.2 in the previous seven days (647 cases in the week to 19 October).

At the University of York, there were 111 individuals self isolating due to a positive Covid-19 test today. Since the previous update on Thursday it has been notified of 26 new cases, included in that figure.

At York St John University there were 34 people self isolating due to a positive test on Thursday.

Weekly data

Triage: As at 26 October there had been 273 Covid triages in the York area in the previous seven days. That’s down 44 from the week before.

Exceedance: The PHE ‘Exceedance’ rating compares the number of new cases over a 14 day period with the previous six weeks and provides a red-amber-green rating to indicate if the trend is worsening. The rating for York is Green. It was Green last week.

Testing: As at 26 October, the seven-day positivity rate in York (Pillar 2 only) was 13.1%. That’s down from 16.59% last week. The national and regional averages are 10.2% and 14.8% respectively. The number of Pillar 2 tests being carried out in York is increasing.

Contact tracing: Since 28 May, 3,020 laboratory-confirmed Covid cases in York have been uploaded into the NHS Test and Trace system and 2,523 of the cases have been engaged. Altogether 9,442 ‘contacts’ have been identified and 5,573 of these have been traced (59.87%).

Deaths: In the ONS data up to 16 October, 175 deaths were recorded as having occurred for York residents (84 in hospital, 78 in care homes, 9 at home and 4 in a hospice). That is two more – one in hospital and one in a hospice – than the previous week. The number of deaths per 100,000 of population in York is 83.09 which is lower than the national average of 91.44.

In North Yorkshire, there were 185 new confirmed Covid-19 cases today, taking the cumulative total to 7,815 – an infection rate of 1,264.5 cases per 100K.

There are 411 cases in Ryedale (up 13), 1,192 in Selby (up 28), 2,300 in Harrogate (up 53), 1,057 in Hambleton (up 24), 1,294 in Scarborough (up 30), 668 in Richmondshire (up 17) and 852 in Craven (up 20).

There were no more coronavirus-related deaths reported by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust today.

That leaves the total at 230. We don’t have an up-to-date breakdown of that figure between York and Scarborough Hospitals.
