Another person has tested positive for coronavirus in York.

The total confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the city now stands at five.

It’s the first positive test in the city for a number of days.

The latest figures from Public Health England show

  • 3,269 infections on the UK – up 643
  • 144 UK deaths
  • 5 cases in York
  • 13 cases in North Yorkshire
  • 10 cases in East Yorkshire

Sharon Stoltz, director of Public Health at City of York Council has called on everyone to heed the health message:

  • The Government has put in place clear recommendations that encourage social distancing.

This approach is aimed at slowing down the spread of Covid-19, allowing our stretched NHS to cope with demand whilst we protect those most at risk from this virus.

Social distancing includes keeping 2m apart from another person, working from home wherever possible and avoiding large gatherings.

At a press conference earlier today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the nation he is “absolutely confident that we can send coronavirus packing in this country” and the tide can be turned within the next 12 weeks.
