Topping & Company have revealed a store will be opening in York next year.
Coming Autumn 2025, it will be the biggest independent book shop in the UK.
The business will operate in 1A Museum Street, which is the previous Visit York office.
It will be the fifth location for Topping & Company, which currently has sites in Bath, Edinburgh, Ely, and St Andrews.
Topping shared the news on Instagram, on a post that read:
‘Sit down, make yourself comfortable & pour yourself a coffee because we come bearing huge news.
‘In autumn 2025, we will be opening a massive new bookshop in central York opposite the York Minster – the biggest independent bookshop in the UK!
‘Our soon-to-be home is the gorgeous 1A Museum/Blake Street which has multiple floors and a fantastic view of the Minster.’
Book lovers can expect Topping’s signature handcrafted bookcases, rolling library ladders, and over 75,000 titles.
Complimentary tea and coffee will be offered to customers, with reading groups and on-hand bookish advice.
An extensive year-round book festival programme will also run from the York store, with a variety of author events to be enjoyed.
The opening programme will be announced next year.
The new location, 1A Museum Street, is a Grade II listed building and almost 6,000 square feet.
The historic building homed management organisation Make it York for 12 years, before it relocated to 21 Parliament Street.
