A large York store has been closed by a fire.
Matalan at Clifton Moor shut after the incident yesterday. There is no date yet for when it will reopen.
Firefighters were called to the fashion retailer at 7.55am yesterday (Tuesday).
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York and Acomb attended a commercial premises where a small fire had been smouldering which caused smoke logging throughout the building.
“The fire had burned itself out prior to arrival of the fire service. Crews used two breathing apparatus and two positive pressure ventilation fans to ventilate the building.”
A Matalan spokesperson said the fire occurred overnight and no staff or customers were inside at the time.
They said: “We’ve had to temporarily close our store in York following a fire in an aircon unit.
“We are beginning the necessary repairs and will reopen the store as soon as we are able to, though this may take some time.
“In the meantime, customers can shop our full range online at matalan.co.uk or visit one of our nearby stores. We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming customers back soon.”
Nearby stores include Knaresborough and Leeds Halton.
They said they would confirm a reopening date for the store as soon as we are able to.
