The charity, Keep Your Pet, is 10-year-old this year and as part of the celebrations they have organised a dog walk tomorrow (Wed 16 Nov) to raise awareness of their service which helps people keep the special bond with their pets at times of crisis.
The KYP City Centre Walk starts at Union Terrace car park at 10:00am and will see the volunteers follow a route, passing many of the dog friendly cafes and shops.
Volunteer Sue Dobson told YorkMix Radio that even if the weather is as bad as today (Tuesday) it will still be going ahead. Dogs need exercise come rain or shine and the team at Keep Your Pet are never worried about a drop of rain.
“The work we do really improves the wellbeing of pets and owners.“
For many older and vulnerable people their pets are an important part of their life.
Founded in 2012, Keep Your Pet is an Age UK York service which aims to help people in the greater York area to look after their pets during times of ill health or other difficulties.
The support services are free and are provided by volunteers who have all had relevant training, including a DBS and a home assessment for fosters.
All they ask is that pet owners pay for things like food, equipment and veterinary treatment.
