Colour & Light has shone over York and impressed spectators for two years running.
Launching in 2023, the spectacular light show was brought to the city by York BID (Business Improvement District).
Colour & Light began by turning York Minster into a giant moving canvas of lights and sound. Last year, the event moved to transform York Art Gallery.
For 2025, the BID is looking for businesses of all shapes and sizes to join as funding partners.
The event involves projecting a ten-minute animated display onto the outside of York’s most loved buildings, adopting the latest innovations in projection mapping to deliver an impactful and eye-catching display.
It runs on a loop between 6pm and 9pm, and its main purpose is to support the early evening economy and enhance York’s cultural offering.
Operations manager at York BID Carl Alsop said: “Colour & Light brings in a much-needed footfall and a boost to the winter economy when businesses need it most.
“The public response has been incredible, and we really hope to be able to bring this world-class event back to York.”
York BID are currently exploring locations for the 2025 showcase, and would welcome businesses to join the project as funding partners.
The financial support will ensure the project can go ahead, which has quickly established into an anticipated event in the York calendar.
York BID project manager Rachel Bean said: “Colour & Light is a spectacular event that brings York’s built heritage together with the city’s UNESCO City of Media Arts designation.
“With business support, we hope to continue to deliver this accessible and family-friendly experience that excites, engages and inspires. Unfortunately, Colour & Light 2025 will not happen without the support of funders.”
For businesses, it offers the opportunity of exposure to large audiences, promotion to thousands of potential new customers, and the chance to align their brand to a much-loved city centre improvement initiative.
With the last two events attracting over 80,000 viewers and adding an estimated £1 million to the local economy, Colour & Light 2025 promises to continue this impressive trend.
