The brolly walk at the Coppergate Centre is signing off in seaside-inspired style.
Umbrellas, complete with fluttering ribbons inspired by jellyfish, were installed at the weekend.
With hanging umbrella displays now becoming a staple summer feature in cities up and down the country, the Coppergate team looked for something a little different to make York’s latest display stand out.
Inspiration came from suspended ‘jellyfish’ at a carnival in Malta.
Jay Commins, who installs new brolly displays every four weeks, said: “So far this year, we’ve had union flags for the Platinum Jubilee, rainbows, tennis balls for Wimbledon, and butterflies and tropical bird umbrellas making a colourful display above Coppergate Walk.
“But we wanted to end the summer with something a little different to make it extra-appealing for the Instagram fans sharing photos,.
“The Ribbon Brollywalk harks back to our first ever umbrella display, with simple, plain coloured umbrellas but with hanging ribbons to really add movement and draw the eye. I’m very much looking forward to hearing the reaction from visitors.”
Coppergate’s umbrella display is the only one in the country that is changed and updated throughout the summer, encouraging people to come and see the new displays whenever they are in the city centre.
