An Italian restaurant is to replace a long-standing Japanese eaterie in York.
YO! Sushi on Church Street will close later this month.
It will be replaced by Pranzo Italian, if plans submitted to City of York Council get the go ahead.
YO! Sushi opened in 2012, replacing the old Ponden Mills store. The next nearest branch is at the York Designer Outlet.
Pranzo Italian was founded by chef Marco Greco. “Pranzo takes its inspiration from Marco’s family heritage in Calabria, Southern Italy where he watched his Nonna make homemade pasta mixed with ingredients picked from their garden,” the website says.
“On the menu today, you’ll see Marco’s favourite elements of his Nonna’s traditional recipes. Everything is made in house, our pasta is made fresh daily as are our breads, sauces and desserts.”
The first restaurant opened in Ilkley in 2018. There are also branches in Harrogate and Horsforth.
According to plans in with City of York Council, the Pranzo Italian on Church Street in York would have 55 covers.
The outside would be repainted, and the internal layout changed.
A design statement says: “The building will retain the existing central position of the customer entrance doors with pavement level access for the benefit of both physically impaired customers and those with push-chairs.
“Internally all toilets have been relocated to ground floor level with adequately sized lobbies provided to all toilets removing the previous scenario where the accessible wc opened up directly into the kitchen and restaurant areas.”
