Jailed the day after they were caught: Two men sentenced for York petrol station robbery
Two men who robbed a York petrol station early on Wednesday have already been jailed.
Police were alerted to the crime as it was in progress at 1.25am at the Jet garage in Haxby – and launched a major search for the culprits, involving dogs and a helicopter.
As a result they found and arrested Constantin Manolache, aged 34, and Victor Marian Brazdis, 23.
The men appeared at York Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday) where they pleaded guilty to burglary.
Manolache and Brazdis, both of Diana Street, Scunthorpe, were sentenced by the magistrates to 24 and 12 weeks’ imprisonment respectively.
Crossed the railway line
Police acted immediately when they were told of a burglary in progress at the Jet garage on Station Road, Haxby.
Witnesses saw two men running away from the scene – going through people’s gardens, over the railway line and into a wooded area off Lady Kell Gardens.
The police helicopter and sniffer dogs were deployed in the area. And by 2.30am the men had been found and arrested.
In court, residents were praised for supporting the investigation and providing key information which led to the quick arrests and conviction of the suspects.
