Now York City have officially moved to the new stadium, their old Bootham Crescent home is being gradually dismantled.
As part of that process the football club is removing seating which is going up for auction.
During the work the groundsmen came across a seat dedicated to a supporter. It bore the plaque: ‘In Memory of Jack Feasby 1913-1996’.
The club wanted to reunite the memorial with Mr Feasby’s family – and a social media appeal came up trumps.
Now the seat has been reunited with Mr Feasby’s grandchildren – and they said the discovery has ‘made our year!’
Granddaughter Clare Feasby said: “Myself, my sister and our gad, Derek Feasby are over the moon with this, we can’t thank you all enough, we really thought it was lost forever.
“So many happy memories of sitting with grandad watching City when we were younger, something we’ve carried on doing, even when we all lived 200 miles away from Bootham.
“You honestly don’t know just how much this means to us.
“Please thank the groundsman who found it and thanks to all of you who worked together to find us – this is what our City family is all about.”
