Leeds-based coffee company La Bottega Milanese is set to open this week in York.
The Milan-inspired coffee house is located on New Street, inside the long empty Supercuts building.
Signage is now in place and work to fit out the café is well advanced.
New matt black sliding windows are in place to open up into an outdoor dining area. The company has applied for a pavement licence from City of York Council.
YorkMix understands that La Bottega Milanese is set to open this week, although no official opening date has been released.
It is not to be confused with La Bottega, the long-standing independent York café and deli on Goodramgate.
This will be the third La Bottega Milanese to open, all in Yorkshire. The website says: “Our mantra is ‘If it’s not from Italy it’s from Yorkshire’.
“All of our cakes and fine meats are imported. All our bread and stuffed croissants are locally sourced and freshly delivered every morning.
“Our coffee is roasted in Yorkshire, our milk is local, our fruit and veg are from Leeds Markets.”
It first launched in Leeds in 2009, and was taken over by Katia Pereira in March 2022.
The café is “a dynamic hub for the urban type, visited repeatedly at different times of the day for your Espresso (many), quick snack or aperitif after work,” the website adds. “A place for networking, and relaxing.”
The café will also be dog friendly and plastic free, using fully cardboard recyclable takeaway cups.
The news comes as an influx of restaurants and cafes open in York. Recent incomers include Motto Sushi, Giggling Squid, Sasa Greek and hot-chocolate chain Knoops which is still waiting to open.
