A York flat is boarded up and empty today after it was ravaged by fire.
As we reported yesterday, fire crews from York, Selby and Acomb tackled a serious blaze at the property last night (Wednesday).
Flames were seen shooting out of the first floor flat on Hope Street, just off Walmgate, close to the junction with Long Close Lane.
Today the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service told YorkMix that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
It caused significant damage to the property, destroying one room and causing major damage to another.
The first floor windows which blew out during the blaze are now boarded up, and much of the floor has been blackened by smoke.
Neighbours told YorkMix that the flat is occupied by a man and woman. It’s understood that nobody was injured in the fire.
A witness told YorkMix: “I went by the house at 5pm yesterday evening and it was fine. When I came back at 7pm the flat was completely gutted and fire crews were there.”
