Indie York is being backed by the council.
The organisation that promotes independent businesses in York is set to be given £10,000 of funding by City of York Council.
Councillors recommended that Indie York, which publishes a map of independent shops, galleries and cafes as well as supporting business owners, be given the money to help develop the project.
The organisation has nearly 200 members and is financed through a £50 annual membership fee.
Simon Brereton, head of economic growth at the council, said there is a “cluster” of traders’ associations in the city which could be strengthened by providing funding to Indie York”.
Cllr Danny Myers added: “I think that’s an absolute must.
“£10,000 from the council represents amazing value for money in terms of the objectives to have a greater independent sector in the city centre and in the city as a whole.”
