Emergency services have received a number of calls about children playing on the ice in York.
Yesterday evening at 6.26pm, fire crews from York and Tadcaster attended a frozen lake in the city after receiving reports that several people were on the ice.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “There were no people present when the crews arrived.
“They used a thermal imaging camera and torches to search the area and confirmed that no one was in the area.”
Police issued this message: “In the current icy conditions, we are getting a high number of calls about children playing on ice.
“Please speak to your children about the dangers of walking on frozen lakes or ponds. It may look like harmless fun but ice may be thin and it is incredibly dangerous.”
