Ikea is set to open one of its new concept stores in York.
It wants to open an Ikea Plan and Order point at Clifton Moor, also known as a ‘POP’.
The company says: “Our Plan and Order points are smaller stores dedicated to kitchen, bedroom and living room planning where you can find home furnishing advice and expertise to help design your ideal space.
“You can book an appointment or use our online planner tools to design your own solution.”
There are only three POPs in the UK so far, at Preston, Aintree and Stockport.
Now plans are in to turn the former Jysk furniture store on Stirling Road, Clifton Moor, into an Ikea POP.
The planning application states: “A POP is a new trading concept for IKEA which they have rolled out in Preston, Aintree and Stockport to date.
“The new format caters to customers looking for a specific service for planning and buying fitted kitchen and bedroom furniture.

“The POP will provide areas to sit down with a sales representative, along with areas to display samples of materials, colours, finishes etc.
“When a customer has designed their kitchen and/or bedroom, the customer would pay for the fitted kitchen/bedroom chosen, which would then be delivered to their home address.”
Jysk closed its Clifton Moor store last July after its lease on the unit expired. At the time it said it was looking for alternative locations in York.
Jysk was billed as Denmark’s answer to Sweden’s Ikea when it first came to the UK.
