It’s a movie and cultural phenomenon like nothing else.
And one York actor was right in the heart of it!
Olivia Cole played a Barbie in the Barbie movie, and said it was an amazing experience she will never forget.
“I feel so lucky to be part of such a monumental production which does feel like a part of history – to be part of the Barbie film and just to be a Barbie, it’s incredible!” she told Laura Castle on YorkMix Radio.
Olivia, who is currently on maternity leave from her job at York Dungeon, explained how she got the part.
“It was last year and it was before I found out I was pregnant. I saw the advert, and I applied to be a Barbie.
“Then I got an email back asking if I could come down to the Warner Brothers studios – that’s where it was filmed – and do some fittings and a few bits and bobs like that.
“Then I found out I got the job!”
She loved being a part of the movie. “Everyone was a Barbie. When you were on set, all the women that I was filming with just knew how exciting it was to be a Barbie,” she said.
“It was absolutely amazing. Just to get into the hair and the makeup – the level of detail that went into being a Barbie was fascinating.
“My little girl dream was to be a Barbie and I was just absolutely fan-girling the whole time.”
Barbie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling weren’t on set when Olivia was filming so she didn’t get to meet them.
“But I was stood outside Margot’s trailer at one point. And it was amazing to be on set.
“I did get to see the slide and the Barbie Dream House. And I just stood there with my mouth wide open because that was absolutely incredible.”
She has now spotted herself in the finished film. “To say that I was in the Barbie movie, that is a dream come true.
“I have just had a daughter, so one day I can show those pictures and show that little clip – that’s enough for me!”
