He’s come from Portugal via Blackpool – and he’s here with one purpose.

“I want to come here, get some game-time, get some goals, and get that promotion that we are after,” says York City’s new striker Raul Correia.

He joined York City on loan from Blackpool on Thursday (January 11) until the end of the season.

Born in Angola, 24-year-old Correia is a Portuguese national who moved to the UK aged nine.

He had played non-league football with Chorley and Radcliffe Borough before he joined Blackpool in January 2017 and moved to Guiseley on loan five months ago.

Correia, 24, made his Blackpool debut on Wednesday night in the Checkatrade Trophy against Shrewsbury Town.

“I am powerful, I have strength and speed, and I score goals – that’s what I am about,” he said.

“Hopefully, this will be the experience I need and I will score the goals that I need to push myself up.”

City sporting director Dave Penney, who worked previously with Correia at Guiseley, said: “Raul is a big, strong, striker who will give the manager extra options in attack.

“He will train with us for the first time on Friday morning and will be in the squad for Saturday’s home game against Bradford Park Avenue.”
