Big sponsorship deal set to help save iconic North Yorkshire skatepark

The campaign to save the iconic Half Pipe feature at the Norton and Malton Skatepark has attracted the interest of a big UK sponsor.

YorkMix can’t reveal full details yet as contracts are still being drawn up. But the leader of the group trying to save the popular site says it will secure the future for a long time to come if he can get it finalised.

We will update you on the name of the sponsor as soon as we are able to.

Ryan Swain is optimistic that the sponsorship deal will secure the park’s future
Vounteers have stripped back the half pipe and romoved mountains of rubbish

Over the weekend Ryan says volunteers have done an amazing job stripping down the half pipe and clearing out rubbish beneath it.

Now it’s securely fenced off and he has made a plea to youngsters in the two towns to stay away as climbing on it will be dangerous.

That will help volunteers to persuade the town council and Fitzwilliam Malton Estate to agree to let then take the next step forward in their dream to see the park restored to its former glory.

The next stage will be to paint the frame. They will also report back to the town council about the general safety and condition too. Ryan says that there is roughly 10% damage and they can work to rebuild those parts that are not up to scratch.

He wants to thanks everyone who came round to help at the weekend.

Ryan will appear on the YorkMix Radio Late show tonight at midnight to tell us more. You can listen again to that tomorrow too.
