Huge queues, star names and eye-popping costumes – 27 pictures from York Winter Comic Con

People queued around the racecourse to get into the York Winter Comic Con today (Sunday).

The event was a huge success with the Knavesmire Stand packed with fans of fantasy, sci-fi and comic book culture.

Countless amazing cosplayers were dressed as their favourite characters. Stars from TV and film, including Peter Davison who was the fifth Doctor in Doctor Who and Chris Rankin who starred as Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter films, were on hand to meet and greet fans.

Dozens of stalls selling every sort of merch were doing a roaring trade. Prices ranged from customised Lego mini figures for £1 to hand-crafted swords for £150.

You could pose on Batman’s Batpod, his two-wheeled super speedy escape vehicle – or meet the Ghostbusters and their nemesis Slimer.

Everyone was there – Darth Vader, a Dalek, the Bumblebee Transformer, Spider-Man and Chewbacca to name only a few.

The event, organised by York Unleashed, ran from 11am to 5pm. Their summer Comic Con takes place on Sunday, 28 August.
