The scale of York’s pop-up Christmas bar and restaurant has now been revealed.
Work is well underway to create The Winter Hütte, a pop-up Swiss-style chalet which is the centrepiece of this year’s festive season in York.
By the end of yesterday (Friday), the full frame and roof was in place on Parliament Street.
A large area of the street is cordoned off behind barriers as work to create the bar is undertaken.
It is due to open on the same day as the St Nicholas Fair on Thursday 17 November and will run till Sunday 1 January 2023. Opening hours are 9.30am to 11pm daily.
The chalet will have a downstairs bar and a first-floor restaurant from Michelin-starred chef Andrew Pern.
Seasonal favourites such as gluhwein and hot chocolate, as well as a gourmet sausage stall, will be available in the ground floor bar.
Upstairs, Andrew – the man behind the Star Inn at Harome and the Star Inn The City in York – will create a ‘Swiss with a Twist’ dining experience.
And the outdoor terrace makes a new setting for a festive drink.
It takes the place of Thor’s Tipi, which is has been on Parliament Street during the York Christmas Market for many years.
There will, however, still be a Thor’s Tipi at the Principal Hotel this Christmas.
The Winter Hütte is a joint venture between Coopers Marquees, CMJ Events and Andrew Pern.
You can find out more and book the restaurant and terrace on the Winter Hütte website.
