Back to work after a long weekend of partying? Working? Sleeping?

All your money spent on travel, takeaways and too much wine?

Well fear not, YorkMix is here to bring you some of the best value eats in York. And just to make it easy, here’s a special offer for every day of the week…

Monday

If you have been hidden away in a cardboard box all of your life, you won’t have heard of the fantastic 50% off all food in Revolution every Monday.

The menu has anything from homemade pizzas (including vodka toppings) to triple overload burgers, to healthy sandwiches, burritos and (my personal favourite) flatbreads which can be topped with king prawns and chorizo, lemon and garlic chicken or goat’s cheese and beetroot.

The venue is lively, friendly and with the music slowly raising as the night goes on, there is always a sense that a night of dancing is never far away.

Prices range from £6.95 to £12.95 – but then you take 50% off.

Tuesday

No prizes for guessing that Jamie’s Italian, inside the historic Lendal Cellars, is one of Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurants.

The menu includes complete homemade pasta dishes, antipasti and mains, and the staff are quick to cater to your every need.

Currently Jamie is running #GennarosTuesdaySpecial which is made by top Italian chef Genarro Contaldo who is creating new dishes at a discounted price every Tuesday.

In October it was creamy wild mushroom risotto reduced to £7.50.

Wednesday

The Slug and Lettuce’s ‘Mid Week Meet’ is perfect for those dithering Wednesday’s that seem to far from the weekend to be true.

With two of these venues to choose from in York – either the newly refurbished bar set in The Courtyard, Swinegate, or the second situated on Low Ousegate and overlooking the River Ouse – you should find a table.

The offer: any sharing dish and a bottle of house wine for £20. Perfect for sharing with friends and having a catch up.

I recommend the ‘Feast for Friends’ with southern fried chicken, breaded mushrooms, pork ribs, crispy fried wedges, artisan bread and beer battered onion rings, served with a range of dips and sauces.

Thursday

The Lowther, with its riverside location and spacious outside/ interior setting, is the perfect place for two-for-one curries on a Thursday night.

It serves itself by traditional pub food by day and an upbeat bar at night with a board full of drinks deals to keep you dancing the night away.

The prices range from £8.25-£9.25 per curry and they have a good selection to choose from including chicken, beef, prawn, lamb and vegetarian.

They also have the offer of adding a 75cl carafe of house wine, either red, white or rose, for another tenner.

Friday

Being on Goodramgate, the Royal Oak is pretty much in walking distance of anything in York centre.

Friday nights at this historic and friendly pub are steak nights. At £13.95 including a glass of house wine, plus live music, it may be the perfect venue to ‘wined’ down for the weekend!

Saturday

Overlooking Clifford’s Tower, 31 Castlegate was once the home of a Georgian architect and the restaurant is still full of history and charm.

It uses only local ingredients in recipes with a modern European theme.

And on a Saturday from noon-7pm you are able to eat from the set menu, with two courses at £15.95 or three for £17.95. The example set menu has a wide range of options however you must be aware that these options may change depending on the night.

Over on Low Petergate, French chain restaurant Cote Brasserie excels in simple yet enjoyable dining at any time of the day.

On a Saturday, I would suggest the weekend special at £9.95 for either steak frites or a half roast chicken, available until 6pm.

Sunday

Sunday is not a Sunday without a roast dinner. And for families, the Café No 8 ‘kids eat free’ deal is hard to beat.

This cosy venue on Gillygate has a sterling reputation for the quality of the food that is made using outstanding local produce.

Children under ten eat free when accompanied by an adult buying a full-priced meal – including the lovely Sunday roast at the Gillygate bistro.

And £11 will get you and a little one a roast served with potatoes, cauliflower cheese and seasonal vegetables, with vegetarian options available.

On the other side of town Walmgate Ale House and Bistro Sunday lunch offer runs from noon-7pm and is part of a set menu which has three courses for £15.50 or two for £13.50.

There are many options to choose from including the classic Sunday roast with a choice of beef or pork and accompanied with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables.
