Police today issued an update and a witness appeal about the lorry crash at a North Yorkshire beauty spot.
As YorkMix reported last week, the white DAF HGV came off the road at Eller Beck Bridge on the A169 north of Goathland late on Wednesday night.
Today, North Yorkshire Police revealed that the HGV had overturned and got partially stuck in the beck.
The scene of the crash
The HGV driver, a 50 year old man from Harlow, was cut free from the cab of the vehicle by firefighters and was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
He remains in a critical condition.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Due to the size of the vehicle and the complexity of the scene, the road had to remain closed the following day to allow investigators to run their enquiries and for specialist equipment to access the location and clear it.”
The road reopened at 1am last Friday (6 January).
“We’re appealing for anyone who either saw the HGV as it travelled from the direction of Pickering towards Whitby, or the collision itself,” the spokesperson said.
“We’d particularly like to speak to anyone who may have captured dashcam footage.”
