The dates of the award-winning York Christmas Market have been revealed for 2024.
It will run from 14 November to 22 December.
The 75 alpine chalets will once again line Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, filled with local traders and artisan products. And visitors can experience a ride on the vintage carousel on King’s Square too.
York Christmas Market won the ‘Best Large Speciality Market’ at the Great British Market Awards, organised by The National Association of British Market Authorities.
Organiser Make It York says 80% of this year’s traders are Yorkshire based businesses, including street food and traditional mulled wine options.
MD of Make It York Sarah Loftus said: “We are thrilled to announce the return of our award-winning Christmas Market! The team works hard to implement numerous measures to ensure a delightful and inclusive experience for all. We are always dedicated to creating a festive environment that everyone can enjoy.”
Environmental sustainability is a priority and traders have committed to ethical practices, using eco-friendly materials and supporting fair standards.
Once again, the market will designate a quieter period from 10am to 12pm each day, so visitors can enjoy a more relaxed festive experience. The Virtual Market will be making a return, which enables people to plan their way around the stalls, whatever their access needs.
Involvement in the Take A Seat initiative will also allow a rest for those in need, making the city more accessible to older people or those with reduced mobility.
The Safe Space Scheme has been put in place this year too, a community of businesses that provide a safe and secure place for women to go if they feel under threat in any way.
