Last week we reported that the Post Office confirmed that the branch in Helmsley has closed with no notice after the CostCutter it was based in shut down too.
Kevin Hollinrake, the local Conservative MP, says he was very concerned to hear about closure of the post office and, he says, the loss of jobs at Costcutter.
He added he was working with the Post Office and Town Council to restore services as soon as possible.
A Post Office spokesperson said last week: “Hemsley Post Office has unfortunately closed with no notice, as the shop, where the branch was based, has shut.
“We know how important a Post Office is to the community and we are working hard to restore service to the area as soon as possible after the unplanned closure.
“In the interim alternative branches include Ampleforth and Kirkbymoorside. Please visit Post Office branch www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder to see the opening times and services available.”
YorkMix has asked CostCutter for a statement but not heard back.
Today (Wednesday 31 August) MP Kevin Hollinrake said:
“I spoke to the Post Office yesterday who are ’working at pace’ with Costcutter to reopen asap. Likely to be two weeks before it reopens due to audit and legals but stressed the urgent community need.
“Thanks to Cllr. George Jabbour and Helmsley Town Council for their unstinting efforts on this.
“Do express your feelings and concerns to the PO here https://www.postofficeviews.co.uk/…/helmsley-yo62-5dx…/ Will provide updates as matters progress.”
