Emergency services were called to reports of a helicopter crash in North Yorkshire this afternoon (Saturday).
They were despatched to Great Heck, near Selby at 3.05pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Selby, Tadcaster, Humberside and South Yorkshire were mobilised to reports of a helicopter crash.
“On arrival crews found a helicopter had gone into a canal, with a single male pilot out of the helicopter, out of the water and seemingly unhurt.
“The pilot was checked by ambulance crews on scene.
“Fire crews are making the scene safe.”
A later statement from the fire service added: “Two appliances from Tadcaster were mobilised to the scene and on arrival a gyrocopter was located in the canal.
“The pilot, a man in his 70s, was able to leave the vehicle and the canal without any assistance, and was believed to have been unharmed during the incident.
“He was checked over by paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
“Crews notified the relevant agencies of the incident including the Canal and Rivers Trust and the Environment Agency.
“North Yorkshire Police also attended the scene.”
