Precious Paws Cat Rescue York is feeling excited.

They want to celebrate a year of helping cats in distress in the city. They want to meet you, have a fantastic afternoon and raise some funds to keep helping the cats and kittens.

Cats like a Bengal breed which attacked another cat to the extent that it needed stitches.

Hammond on guard duty

He’s been adopted now by the foster carer and although he still behaves like a toddler he is doing much better.

The kitten in the main photo was part of a family that had to be hand fed as their mother was very ill. They are all fit and well with new homes now.

Group member Kathy Bowerman told YorkMix Radio they have helped some very special cats like Hammond, a real success story.

“He came into us as a very troubled cat who guarded everything!

“His litter tray, his food bowls, his water bowl , his bed – and he could be very unpredictable but our fantastic foster carer really made a huge difference with him and he got an amazing home with a really lovely lady who takes on troubled rescue horses too.”

Hammond is now enjoying life much more.

Kathy says: “We have worked so hard and are still, of course, working incredibly hard, all unpaid. I think we are just ‘Mad Catters’.

“We did wonder whether to describe the event as ‘The Mad Catters’ Tea Party’ but then thought it isn’t actually a tea party but something much better than that – and we didn’t want to detract from the fact that it will be our birthday.”

They are hosting an event on 2 July at Burn Hall Hotel in Huby.

“Doors open at 12 noon giving guests time to browse our stalls. At 1pm there will be a hot and cold buffet,” Kathy said.

“We would like to invite people to come wearing a hat of their own design! This could be cat themed or birthday themed for instance and there will be a prize for the winner. This is optional so no pressure at all.

“Following the indoor celebrations, if the weather is kind then there will be games on the lawn which we hope people will enjoy.

“Places cost £20 per adult – please book your place asap so you don’t miss out. To book head to our Facebook Page for details”
