Grim few days for river safety as another body is recovered from the water

Emergency services have recovered another body from the river in York.

Police launched a search of the Ouse on Sunday morning (14 April) responding to reports of a missing man.

They concentrated their search around the Blue Bridge area.

At lunchtime, the North Yorkshire Police issued this statement:

• Police were conducting river searches in York this morning, in connection with a concern for the welfare of a man.

  Sadly, they have located the body of a man. His family have been informed.

  We are not in a position to formally identify him at this time.
  

This follows the operation on Friday to recover the body of a woman from the river near Ouse Bridge.

Woman rescued

On Saturday a woman was rescued after falling into the Ouse near Lendal Bridge.

The incident happened at about 11.45pm.

Fire crews from York and Acomb were called out and the York Rescue Boat was alerted.

York Rescue Boat issued this statement:

• York Rescue Boat became aware that door staff were looking for a person who had entered the River Ouse near Lendal Bridge.

  At the same time, one of our regular foot patrols had also seen the person in the water.

  Our foot patrols and boat attended, the person having been rescued by members of the public as we arrived on scene.

  Our team stayed on scene to provide initial first aid then to assist the emergency services attending the casualty.
