This weekends Grassroots fixture took us to Strensall for an all girls game as Strensall Tigresses welcomed Rawcliffe Ravens for this U13s match, the last of the season for both teams.
Strensall needed a win, and for results elsewhere to go in their favour in order to secure a second place finish in the league.
Sadly, that wasn’t to be as Rawcliffe ran out 0-2 winners thanks to a goal in each half from their No7 Toni, who was subsequently awarded the Player of the Match award by Leeds United Women’s Captain Bekki Bass, who was watching from the sidelines with me.
It was a brilliant game of football to watch, high in quality, determination, skill and application. Just sad that a team had to lose on the day as both would have been deserving of points.
Our guest for the day Bekki, gave both teams some solid advice before we left the ground that day, and if they decide to take it on, I’m sure we’ll see one or two of those girls wearing an England shirt before you know it.
Thanks to Coach Phil at Strensall, Dave at Rawcliffe, both sets of players and the parents and staff that made both Bekki and I feel we welcome. It was a pleasure featuring you, and we wish you the very best of luck for next season!
