Grassroots this weekend took us to Haxby, to the Ethel Ward Playing Fields for a pre season fixture between Haxby Town and Huntington Rovers Under 9’s!
Don’t let the fact that this was a pre season friendly fool you into thinking it was a slow and steady couple of matches, because these kids played like their little lives depended on it!
As is normally the way during pre season matches, both Simon (Coach at Huntington) and Rich (Coach at Haxby) decided to play pretty much every player out of position, to see how they get on outside their comfort zones.
And I doubt either Coach would have been disappointed as both sides gave maximum effort throughout. We even had a Goalkeeper playing outfield in a bid to score his first EVER goal!
As always, the support from parents on the sidelines was incredible, and the football on show was very impressive considering the age of both sides.
No doubt, smashing seasons are ahead for both teams, I for one cant wait to see how they get on!
