This weekends Grassroots fixture, was pretty much on my doorstep, as Garforth Villa U14s welcomed Barmby Moor FC U14s to Glebelands Playing Fields, for this the final match of the season for both clubs.
It certainly was a glorious morning for it, even though the blazing sunshine over Garforth made conditions a little rough on the players.
By their own admissions, this season had been up and down for both Villa and Barmby Moor, with both teams citing too many draws as their Achilles heel, and that showed throughout the first 20 mins or so with a very evenly matched game.
The breakthrough however went Barmby Moor’s way, as a crisp strike from 30 yards flew over the top of the Villa keeper to make it 0-1 Barmby Moor. Two more goals followed in the second half, though Villa did have chances to find their way back into the match it has to be said.
And so the game finished 0-3 to Barmby Moor, who saw out the win in energy sapping conditions. A big well done to both teams, it looked tough out there, but every single player gave their all and never stopped running. Special congrats to Jack from Garforth Villa and Ethan from Barmby Moor who picked up their respective Coaches Player of the Match awards.
A huge thank you to both Garforth Villa U14s and Barmby Moor FC U14s, it was a pleasure meeting you all and featuring you on our Grassroots campaign here on YorkMix radio! All the best for next season!
