This week Grassroots headed over to Millthorpe School in York, in the blazing sunshine to meet the organisers and participants in the 24 Hour charity football match that was taking place inside the school sports hall.
The event was the brainchild of Ollie Hewitt, who is also brother in law to a very brave chap called Adam Gray.

The football was of course the centrepiece, however pizza ovens, a fully stocked bar (thanks to York Gin), bouncy castles, face painting and music made this a simply wonderful event to be a part of. There were plenty of tired legs about, but not one person complained. They simply played, and played, and played!
My hat is tipped to everyone who took part, and I’m delighted to say that the £15,000 target was reached and beaten, meaning Adam can undergo the next round of treatment he so desperately needs, and deserves.
Football was the winner today, as was Adam Gray, an absolute gentleman whom I wish the very best to.
