Get ready for a top bash! York pub hosts city conker championship
York’s annual Conker Championship is back for the seventh year – could you be the new conqueror?
Go head-to-head at The Gillygate Pub on Sunday 24 October from 2pm for your chance at victory.
There will be two categories in the championship – juniors and seniors.
“The reason we started it was nobody played conkers,” the Gillygate’s Brian Furey told Ben and Laura on YorkMix Radio.
“It’s all good fun. It’s all outdoors and it’s just a good reason to go out and have a bit of a laugh.”
The rules are simple – whoever smashes the other’s conker to smithereens first wins!
The Gillygate Pub will supply all of the conkers, with participants picking without looking, so there’s no chance of an unfair advantage.
Divide and conker
The winner of each category will have their name added to the Conker Championship victory shield!
It’a £3 entry for seniors and £2 for juniors. All proceeds from the day will be split between York Carers Centre and BBC Children in Need.
There will also be music and food out in the beer garden.
To register your place, head over to the Eventbrite page – or just turn up on the day!
And you’ve still time to practice!
