Police are investigating after a gang tried to steal a cash machine in North Yorkshire.
They were alerted to the attempted ATM theft at 10.43pm on Friday night (21 February), when it was reported that four vehicles were acting suspiciously in the Applegarth car park in Northallerton.
The member of the public reported hearing smashing and a lot of noise along with a telehandler, a tree felling tipper Ford and two Volvo estates.
When officers responded, the two Volvos, one in red and one in blue and black, drove off. But the telehandler and tipper style van were left running.
The Volvos were later found abandoned at different locations nearby.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Several items that would be associated with crime were found inside the telehandler and tipper truck.
“All vehicles have since being forensically recovered.
“A 34-year-old man was found hiding under a bush. He was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle, going equipped and dangerous driving.
“He has since been released on bail as enquiries continue.”
Officers are asking witnesses, anyone with information, or those with video to get in touch.
