These are the gruesome injuries suffered by a York man after he was attacked in the city centre.

The last thing Nick Dray remembers is walking past the Grand Hotel some time around 3.30am on Sunday (October 21) when he was set upon by a gang of men.

The 22-year-old from Woodthorpe had left Club Salvation and was heading to get a taxi when he heard the men shout.

Nick said he doesn’t recall a lot but told Minster FM:

  • I was punched and kicked and it’s all a bit of a blur. I came round on the floor and was helped by a girl called Megan who looked after me til an ambulance arrived.

I’ve got a broken cheek bone and lots of bruises. They still don’t know how badly damaged my eye socket is.

He shared these photographs on social media in the hope that they will lead to information that will help police catch the perpetrators.

Officers are conducting inquiries and looking to see if any CCTV cameras caught the incident.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:

  • Police in York are investigating the serious assault on a 22-year-old local man which occurred on Rougier Street, near the bus stop outside the Grand Hotel, at some time between 3.30am and 4.15am on Sunday.

The victim was taken by ambulance to York Hospital with serious injuries including a fractured cheekbone and eye socket.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including searching CCTV in the area. It is believed a number of men were present at the time of the assault who then left the scene.

Nick hopes someone will come forward to help police
