An extraordinary story told through music and words is coming to York – and it stars Game of Thrones’ Anton Lesser and Killing Eve’s Charlie Hamblett.
The show Red Sky at Sunrise follows writer Laurie Lee through his much-loved trilogy, Cider with Rosie, As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, and A Moment of War – which chronicles his journey from growing up in the Slad valley to fighting with the International Brigades against Franco’s forces in the Spanish Civil War.
Red Sky at Sunrise: Laurie Lee in Words and Music is at the Grand Opera House York on Sunday 26 May.

Anton Lesser (Game of Thrones, Wolf Hall, Endeavour) and Charlie Hamblett (Killing Eve, Ghosts, The Burning Girls) will play the role of Laurie Lee older and younger, along with an array of other characters.
The show is devised by Judy Reaves, with the text adapted by Deirdre Shields from Laurie Lee’s autobiographical work.
A musical programme will accompany Lee’s writing, conceived by David Le Page and performed by Orchestra of the Swan. The music will capture the lush Gloucestershire countryside to the dry landscapes of Spain, via the music of Vaughan Williams, Walton, Holst, Elgar, Britten, Grainger, Albeniz, Turina and De Falla. Featuring guitarist Mark Ashford performing Asturias, Sevilla and Spanish Romance.
Tickets start from £25 and are available via the Grand Opera House website.
