A man on the run from prison is back behind bars after a covert police operation in York.
Specialist officers from North Yorkshire Police stopped a vehicle in Acomb yesterday (Thursday) and made the arrest.
The man in his 30s and of no fixed address was taken into custody and charged with supplying class-A drugs – namely heroin and crack cocaine.
He was also charged with absconding from custody during a home leave visit from an open prison last year.
The man had been jailed for nine-years for drug dealing.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “He was remanded to appear at York Magistrates’ Court today so he can be jailed.”
The driver of the vehicle has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an escaped prisoner.
Specialist officers from North Yorkshire Police’s sentry team and operational support unit took part in the covert operation.
The sentry team, which uses unmarked cars and officers in plain clothes, tackles organised crime including county lines – a term for established drug dealing networks that span different counties.
