A new production of The School for Scandal is coming to York – and features a star from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Joseph Marcell is best remembered for playing Geoffrey the butler in six seasons of the US TV comedy series, and is set to lead the cast of Richard B Sheridan’s classic comedy.
The School for Scandal is at York Theatre Royal from Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 April.
Joseph Marcell was last seen on the York Theatre Royal stage in 2020 in Alone in Berlin. He was most recently seen in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s debut feature film, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, and his prolific stage credits include extensive work with Shakespeare’s Globe and the RSC.
In this fresh take on Sheridan’s The School for Scandal he plays Sir Peter Teazle who believes his young wife is sleeping with someone else. She isn’t but is starting to think that if her husband believes it, she may as well give it a go. After all, if you’re going to cause a scandal, you might as well enjoy it.
The School For Scandal also features Garmon Rhys, Ayesha Griffiths, Emily-Jane McNeil, Alex Phelps, Lydea Perkins, Tony Timberlake and Guy Dennys.
The production, from Tilted Wig and Malvern Theatres in conjunction with Theatre by the Lake, is directed by Seán Aydon.
Tickets start from £15 and are available via the York Theatre Royal website.
