City of York Council are offering free cycling training sessions for adult beginners and those returning to cycling.
Training will take place on Saturday 23 February at Huntington School on Huntington Road and on Wednesday 13 March at Dunnington Sports Club on Common Road.
There will be two levels of training at each event, one for beginners who have never learned to ride and the other for people who want to improve their cycling skills or want to gain more confidence.
Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism says “York is one of the country’s most cycle-friendly cities, with an enviable network of cycle paths and routes.
“These sessions are open to any adult who would like to make use of the wonderful health, fitness, social and money saving benefits which cycling can bring. Participants will each receive an hour of training with City of York Council cycle trainers who will provide friendly help and advice to get people cycling.
“The sessions are a fantastic way for people to build their confidence on a bicycle in a safe and supportive environment. This is the second set of sessions we’ve put on and those who have already attended have been amazed at the progress they made.”
People attending a beginner session in July last year found, to their amazement that with the support of the tutor they were actually cycling at the end of the session.
