It has now emerged that a total of seven people were treated in hospital after a chemical leak in a York hotel.

YorkMix reported yesterday how a major incident was sparked after a chlorine leak at the Novotel Hotel on Fewster Way.

The hotel was evacuated and the street sealed off.

Emergency services were alerted at about 3.30pm.

Altogether 16 staff were affected by the leak. Police initially said two people were taken to hospital, then later said a further four were hospitalised.

This afternoon (Saturday) it emerged that seven people – all staff at the hotel – had been treated in hospital. They have all been discharged

A spokesperson for the Novotel Hotel said: “We can confirm the hotel was fully evacuated on Friday afternoon as a safety precaution following a temporary spillage of chlorine solution in the back of house area near the pool.

“Seven members of staff were brought to hospital as a precaution and have since been discharged.

“The health of our guests and colleagues remains our first priority.”

By 7.45pm on Friday, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue completed safety checks at the hotel and guests and staff were able to return to the hotel.
