What better for celebrating a spectacular reign than a brolly?
The answer: lots of brollies, all decorated with the union flag.
The Coppergate Brolly Walk now has a resplendently patriotic look ready for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Altogether, 36 union flag umbrellas will dance in the breeze throughout the half term holiday and Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, creating another Instagram-friendly display for residents and visitors.
And the displays will also be enjoyed by the thousands of visitors coming to York for the Jorvik Viking Festival, which takes place from 28 May to 1 June, and will include the traditional parade of hundreds of Viking warriors from York Minster into St Mary’s Square, the March to Coppergate.
“This is our first Brollywalk of 2022, and comes with a hidden Insta-moment,” said centre manager, Pippa Unwin.
“On a nice sunny day, at exactly noon when the sun is overhead, the light shining through makes a series of Union Jack shadows on the pavement.
“We’re hopeful that we’ll have great weather throughout the week, so fingers crossed that there are plenty of opportunities to grab the special shot!”
