After months of renovation work by parents and volunteers, the new facilities at the Lord Mayor’s Own Scouts hut are finished.
And who better to undertake the official opening ceremony than the Lord Mayor of York himself, Cllr Dave Taylor?
The Lord Mayor, the Sheriff Jonathan Tyler and their were given a tour of the hut by leader Dave Petty.
Along with committee members he explained the affiliation with the Lord Mayor and the history of the group, which was founded in 1923.
Much of the work undertaken has been to make the venue, which is off Bootham Terrace, more accessible and inclusive. It also includes much-improved loos!
Run by volunteers, the group offers both boys and girls aged from six upwards the opportunity to explore, learn and play through an exciting range of activities.
As part of the celebrations and opening, the youngsters took part in a treasure hunt and rounders match, before enjoying a BBQ in the newly-cleared garden.
