The milder weather means the snow is melting across Yorkshire – and that will see York river levels rise.

A flood warning has been issued for riverside properties in the city, with flooding expected from 8.15pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Environment Agency says: “Areas most at risk include properties on King’s Staith in York and riverside areas through York from Lendal Bridge to Millennium Bridge.

“We are closing flood gates in York and the Foss Barrier will operate from this evening as required.

“Levels in York are expected to peak on Wednesday morning, and then begin to fall thereafter.”

That peak is forecast to be 3.49m – with 3m the level at which riverside properties flood.

Most of York will be unaffected, and will be open for business as normal.

There’s also a flood warning for the River Ure at Boroughbridge Camping and Caravanning Site.
