There are two flood alerts in place for York and North Yorkshire this morning (Thursday, 3 August).
We reported last night that a flood alert was issued for the River Foss in York at 7.05pm.
It says: “River levels are rising steadily on the River Foss due to heavy rainfall today. Flooding is possible overnight into Thursday (3 August) on low lying land and roads.
“Areas most at risk are around the River Foss upstream of Yearsley Baths to Strensall.
“Further light rainfall is forecast overnight and into the rest of the week.
“We will continue to monitor levels closely. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
There will be an update issued today (Thursday).
And there’s a flood alert for the Upper River Derwent, issued at 8.41pm last night.
It says: “Areas most at risk include low lying land, roads and footpaths in the Upper Derwent between Mowthorpe and West Ayton. Flooding is possible overnight into Thursday morning.”
The flood alert area covers the Upper Derwent and Scarborough areas, including land around The Sea Cut at Scalby, Throxenby Beck, Old Malton, and Priorpot Beck in Norton.
A flood alert is not as severe as a flood warning. An alert signals you need to prepare because ‘flooding is possible’. Read more here.
