Five restaurants in York and North Yorkshire have won national acclaim.
The AA Hospitality Awards 2024 took place at the Grosvenor House in London yesterday (Monday). They recognise the UK’s top chefs, restaurants and hotels.
And we should give an extra cheer for these local eateries who were honoured.
Here is the full list of North Yorkshire winners:
- Chartwell Restaurant, Aldwark – 3 AA Rosettes
- Skosh, York – 3 AA Rosettes
- Pignut, Helmsley – 3 AA Rosettes
- The Old Deanery, Ripon – 3 AA Rosettes
- The Angel at Hetton, Skipton – 5 AA Rosettes
The AA Rosette awards are a hallmark of distinction, awarded to restaurants demonstrating consistently high standards of cooking.
Andrew Mackay, general manager at Aldwark Manor Estate, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded 3 AA Rosettes at Chartwell, not least because the restaurant only opened in May this year, so to already be recognised with this accolade is exceptional.
“We’re incredibly proud of the new fine dining experience available at Chartwell.”
Since its opening following a £3 million investment, the team at Chartwell have worked to ensure every detail of the dining experience is executed with precision and care. The restaurant is inspired by Sir Winston Churchill’s iconic country home.
AA commended Pignut in Helmsley for its ‘ambitious cooking’ and noted that its ‘inventive modern British cooking is driven by a zero-waste philosophy’.
Tom Heywood, chef at Pignut, said: “We’ve been aiming for Three Rosettes since we opened last year and we’re very proud that we’ve achieved this ourselves, in our own restaurant.
“It sets us apart from other restaurants in the area and shows people the level we are at in terms of food and service – we aim to build on this, keep progressing and hopefully continue to achieve more accolades.”
Skosh, the Japanese-inspired small plates restaurant on Micklegate in York, was awarded 3 AA Rosettes, and was described by the AA inspector as serving up ‘dynamic Asian food’.
