Another big student block is planned for York on the site of two city businesses.

The five-storey accommodation complex is due to be built on the site of Enterprise Rent-a-car and Just Tyres on Foss Islands Road.

It is bordered by Waitrose to the west, and Elvington Terrace to the east.

Developers Gregory Projects and the Hire Group say: “It will provide further investment to this part of the city centre, contributing positively to the Foss Island Road area replacing the existing unattractive building with a well-designed new development that fits in with its surroundings.

“The development will give the students a sense of home, create a safe environment, ensure the students connect and build new friendships. The development provides an extensive ground floor social space capable of holding events, movie nights, and gaming competitions.”

The block is next to Waitrose

The 133-room block will also come with a gym, laundry, study space, lounge space and reception area. A landscaped courtyard will be enclosed by the block on three sides.

The existing Enterprise and Just Tyres buildings would be demolished to make way for the building.
