Five fire crews were called in to tackle a large woodland blaze yesterday (Friday).
A crew from Selby was the first to respond to reports of the fire off Haugh Lane, Hambleton, at 5.12pm.
On arrival they found a large area of woodland alight and called for back up.
Crews from Tadcaster, York, Acomb and Pontefract responded.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews used one extended hose reel jet, knapsack sprayers and beaters to tackle the fire with the fire front measuring approximately 200m.
“This fire is believed to have been started deliberately.”
