York police made five arrests in one night – with the help of the public.
Officers had a busy night on Tuesday, which began in Shambles Market.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Following ongoing issues in the area, we pursued a male suspect who attempted to evade capture.
“He was arrested for possession of a class B drug with intent to supply and assaulting a police officer.
“Thank you to the vigilant members of the public who reported suspicious activity and supported our efforts.”
Later, they received reports of multiple thefts in city shops. Three youths were arrested for theft, and one was arrested for possession of a Class B drug.
The spokesperson added: “Special thanks to the York council cameras for providing crucial evidence that aided in these arrests, and to the member of the public who allowed an officer to use their bike whilst pursing a suspect.”
